Selection of teams
State Champs: Teams are selected during the October trial process. In the event there are more players trying out than positions available, some players will not be successful. Selection in a State Champs teams does not guarantee selection in a WABL Team for 2024.
WABL: Those who played WABL for Senators in 2023 and/or State Champs for Senators in 2023 will be invited to WABL 2024 try outs.

Congratulations to all players who have been selected for the 2023 State Champs. We want to thank everyone who participated in this year’s tryouts. To those who have earned a spot on the team, well done on your achievement. For those who may not have made the selection this time, we look forward to your return and continued efforts next year.

The 2023 Fuel to Go and Play BWA State Championships will be held on the following dates:
18/19 November 2023 – Under 11 Boys and Under 13 Girls (Divisions 2–5)
25/26 November 2023 – Under 11 Girls and Under 15 Boys (Divisions 2–5)
2/3 December 2023 – Under 13 Boys and Under 15 Girls (Divisions 2–5)
9/10 December 2023 – Under 17 Boys, Under 17 Girls and Under 19 Boys (Divisions 2–5)
15/16/17 December 2023 – State Titles – All Championship Divisions across all age groups
Bring a basketball (with your name clearly marked on it) and drink bottle and wear a reversible training singlet. Please do not wear any school, academy, state, or other club clothing.
You will be able to check in up to 30 minutes prior to your session starting.
Tryouts for WABL in 2024 will be a closed tryout.
Attendance will be by invitation only.
All players who are selected for a State Champs team in 2023 or are selected for a WABL team in 2023 will be invited to trial.
This means that if you would like to be considered for a Senators WABL team in 2023 you must participate in the State Champs trial process even if you are unable to play.
WABL Tryouts will be in Jan/Feb 2023.

The season starts in April and runs through to September which includes midweek training and games on Sunday’s.
Due to the large number of athletes interested and limited positions the tryout process is highly competitive.
A panel of coaches assess athletes across a range of skills and athleticism. Coaches discuss all athletes before forming teams. Please note that due to the large number of athletes who tryout it is often not possible to provide individual feedback on a player.
