summer 2024/25 season changes

We have been listening to our community in particular with our most recent survey and have made a number of exciting changes to:

  1. Give a better experience to our community
  2. Give more opportunities for more people to play basketball

Below is a summary of the key changes for the upcoming Summer 2024/25 Season.

We will be introducing an under 8’s division on Tuesday afternoons. This will be a coach led division with the first 20 minutes a skills/game based development program and the second 20 minutes a coach refereed game of two 10 minute halves.

On Saturday’s under 10’s, 12’s and 14’s Boys and Girls competitions will be offered instead of mixed. Feedback received is that mixed basketball offerings as players get older is a limiting factor to girls involvement.

We will be offering a Domestic Open Day as an opportunity for players who are wanting to play domestic with Warwick. This open day will include a skills session with our Development Manager to help form teams of equal skill levels.

Feedback was overwhelmingly positive to the school age model. Full breakdown can be found here.
Age exemptions will only be considered in VERY exceptional circumstances, not just to keep a team together. Please email comps@warwicksenators.com.au with the rationale and allow a minimum of 48 hours for it to be considered and a reply.

Friday competitions will offer a Division 1 with a maximum of 7 Restricted/Representative players. Providing an opportunity for these players to participate in domestic basketball is important, but it must be done without creating imbalances in other competitions. Other competitions will be limited to 3 restricted/representative players.

Historically, teams have been registered and then withdrawn late when they haven’t been able to fill a whole team taking away opportunity for others to play.

To change that, teams will pay a $35 nomination fee (non-refundable) and have one week (7 days) to have a minimum of 7 players (U8, 10, 12, 14’s) or 6 players (u16, 18’s) registered. We currently have, on average 7.5 players registered to junior domestic teams and this is to minimise the need for fill-ins and to maximise the opportunity for more people to play.

Players will pay their $40 registration fee and then a $200 season fee. This change is to bring Warwick in line with other sports and competitions and remove the need for tickets and to simplify registrations, in particular with many using Kidsport vouchers. When registering through PlayHQ payment instalment options are available.

This does not include any Basketball WA or Basketball Australia fee’s.
