Grading process
When registering your team, you will need to select an age bracket and a division for your team to play in. Please select carefully as once the grading process has concluded (after round 6), there will be no further changes.
When deciding on a division please consider the following:
- Division 1: This is a highly competitive competition which may contain highly skilled players including those who play WABL (juniors), NBL1 (seniors) and State representative players (juniors/seniors).
- Division 2: This competition is for those teams/players who have played previously and are looking to develop skills in a competitive environment.
- Division 3 and below: It is suggested that teams that consist largely of players who have not played before or who have limited playing experience should select this division. These divisions are a great skill-building opportunity for players and are considered a more relaxed, social setting.
- Warwick Senators also run a range of Domestic Development programs for those who are new to the game and/or who want to learn the rules of basketball. Ages include under 8, 12, 14 and 16.
The Competitions team oversees the grading process which runs the first 6 rounds. The aim is to make each division as balanced as possible by ensuring all games are as close as possible. Final margins 15 points or under are considered a close result.
Broken into three phases, this process looks at game results, Referee Supervisor feedback about players on court and player/parent requests.
This grading process is in place to ensure:
- A fair and balanced competition for all teams.
- A fun environment for all players regardless of the players’ ability.
In general, teams who have won every game by large amounts may be moved up to a higher division. Teams who have lost every game by large amounts may be moved down a division. Other factors that are also considered are teams played and winning/losing margins, please note that just because you may wish your team to be moved there is no guarantee it will be and that there is always a top and bottom of every division.
Please note that if there are not enough teams for a competition/division to be considered viable by the Competitions team, teams may be placed in another competition/division at the discretion of the Competitions team.
