Competition info & rules
Following is a run down on what you need to know about our junior competitions for Senators.
Competition information - things to know
Games are played through Monday to Saturday. The teams age, gender and grade will determine when they play.
Competitions are played at Warwick Stadium and Herb Graham Recreation Centre.
All players are expected to be in full game uniform on matchday. This includes a jersey, basketball shorts and adequate sporting attire (shoes, socks). Warwick Senators also highly recommends that mouthguards be worn by all our basketball players.
All players are expected to abide by the Senators Code of Conduct which can be found under our Policies and Documents.
We urge all participants to read our Junior handbook.
It is the responsibility of all coaches, managers and parents to be aware of the competition rules outlined in our handbook. Warwick Senators reserve the right to amend or introduce bylaws during the season if necessary. If you require clarification on any rule please email comps@warwicksenators.com.au
The player registration fee and player season fee contribute towards the running of one of the largest domestic junior basketball competitions in WA.
Fees remain consistent across our Summer and Winter seasons. It is based on an average number of rounds, but may vary due to byes and division structure.
As a not-for-profit, we invest these fee’s into the expenses related to the competition and ensure sustainability of our facilities.
This includes:
- Referee development program
- Employing suitable staff to manage the operations of the competition and the stadium
- Hire other venues for competition purposes
- Maintain and invest in the facilities to ensure we can provide quality spaces and we can meet our lease obligations to council
Key rules
Below is a quick summary of some of the common questions we are asked. Further explanations are provided in the Junior handbook which can be found under our Policies and Documents section.
We are strongly discouraging the use of fill ins except where absolutely necessary.
A fill in can only be used to bring the team up to 6 players (maximum of 2 fill ins) and must have their full name registered on the tablet in PlayHQ with a ticket purchased at Reception for $15.
A fill in can only play for a team twice. After this they should register as a player for that team.
Failure to comply will result in an automatic forfeit.
Forfeit fines are in place to discourage forfeiting so this ensures teams are able to play as many games as possible in a season.
Forfeit notifications need to be made through Teampay. Each team will be provided with a code to set up your team on the Teampay app.
The fee applicable can be paid on the day of forfeit. If not, it will be required to be paid within a month or an automatic forfeit will apply to the next upcoming round. After three forfeits in a season the competitions team may contact you to discuss your continuation in the competition.
Warwick Senators, alongside Basketball WA, is committed to improving the health of its players and coaches through safe participation in sport and physical activity.
To our junior and senior domestic players, your teeth are just as precious as anyone else’s. Dental injuries are the most common type of oral facial injury in sport. They can keep players out of sport for a significant amount of time and often prove costly.
Warwick Senators strongly encourages and supports the use of mouthguards across all ages within our domestic competitions. This support is in line with the strategies and initiatives of SportSafe and Basketball WA in promoting better attitudes towards safety in sports, and in particular, basketball.
In line with Basketball WA, mouthguards are mandatory for all players under the age of 18 years competing in the Western Australian Basketball League (WABL) and all State team representatives.
Mouthguards can be custom-made or purchased from a chemist/sport store and fitted at home.
Our goal is to have as many people playing basketball who want to so we are encouraging players to register early. The registration fee is setup to reward the players who register early as it will remain at $200 until half way through the season when it will be reduced.
Please contact us with the relevant medical note and we will refund you the balance of your season fee.
We have our Referee Supervisor and Referee Coaches monitoring games. If you have a concern on the day please speak to the Games Controller first.
If you would like to protest an outcome or lodge a grievance please complete the following form – Domestic Grievance.
To create a balanced and competitive competition, Friday’s night division 1 is permitted to have up to 7 WABL/Restricted players in their teams. All other competitions on other days are only allowed to have up to three (3).
This is to provide a competitive competition for WABL players to play domestically whilst not creating “super teams” in other competitions.
